Founded & Led by Nathan Lieuwen
Nathan Lieuwen brings an exceptional background to Kootenay Goaltending. A former professional goaltender, Nathan played five seasons of pro hockey (2012–2017), including time in the Buffalo Sabres organization. Prior to that, he spent five seasons with the Kootenay Ice of the WHL, where he captured the Ed Chynoweth Cup and was named Playoff MVP (2010–2011).
After retiring due to injuries, Nathan returned home to Cranbrook, BC, where he now lives with his wife Breanne and their children—Wesley, Oaklynn, and Scottie—and has dedicated himself to developing the next generation of goaltenders.
World-Class Coaching Influence
Throughout his career, Nathan trained under and collaborated with some of the most respected goalie minds in the world, including François Allaire and Jim Corsi. These experiences shaped a dynamic, adaptable coaching philosophy designed to meet the needs of goaltenders at every age and skill level.
Nathan has also been involved for over four years with NET360, an innovative goalie “think-tank” that brings together NHL coaches and NHL goaltenders to share cutting-edge techniques and modern approaches to the position.
