Jamil Abiad is a highly respected professional basketball coach and global trainer known throughout Ottawa and Eastern Canada for developing complete players—physically, mentally, and competitively. His journey into basketball is rooted in resilience and relentless work ethic. Introduced to the game at age 12, Jamil faced early adversity but committed himself to daily training, film study, and mastering the point guard position. That dedication transformed him into a four-time city all-star and one of the top point guards in Ottawa by Grade 12, earning multiple accolades along the way.
Jamil’s competitive career continued at Bishop’s University, where he achieved RSEQ silver, an RSEQ Championship, and a 6th-place finish at Nationals, along with individual honors. Beyond the stats, his five years at the university level forged him as a leader—refining his time management, self-discipline, and ability to thrive under pressure. After university, Jamil fulfilled a lifelong goal by playing professionally overseas, gaining firsthand experience in elite basketball environments before transitioning into coaching to help others reach their dreams.
As a coach and trainer, Jamil has developed unique, modern training methods designed to synchronize body and mind—preparing athletes to compete against the best. His approach emphasizes not only physical performance, but also mental stamina, decision-making, and competitive toughness. Constantly evolving, Jamil studies the latest training methodologies and applies global best practices to push athletes beyond their perceived limits.
Over the past several years, Jamil has traveled internationally, learning directly from NBA players, professional coaches, and elite trainers, while training high-level athletes who have progressed to NCAA, USPORTS, CCAA, and professional basketball. Since November 2022, he has served as a Lead Assistant Coach and Head Coach in professional basketball in Iceland, gaining invaluable experience at the pro level. He now brings this international knowledge and professional standard back to Ottawa—committed to elevating local players and any athlete he works with on their path to achieving basketball excellence.
